HDHM Donates Car

E-mail Print PDF

For the past 2 weeks we have been accepting nominations for the free
1999 Honda Accord 4 door sedan with sun roof and many extras,
donated by one of my daughters for a less fortunate family.  After the
committee of three read the 52 nominations with some profiles
4 pages long, They came to the decision to accept Laura F. as the
person (family) of choice.

I have been able to read all 52 nominations and truly believe any one
of them could use this car and are very deserving.
If you ever have a car in decent condition and willing to donate it to
this non profit organization for a tax write-off,
we can certainly find a deserving family. My thanks to all the other
51 nominations who were definitely deserving.  I only wish I had 51 vehicles.

Peace

Dear Peter and Committee,

After 6 months with no car, I was able to find a 21 year old car for $600 with my income tax money.
It is very old but I am grateful I have some sort of transportation to get my husband to the doctors
appointments as well as a way to get to a job if I get one as a bookkeeper.  Still no job and many many horrific problems.
My husband got into a very very bad car accident in January and rolled the car over several times.
He is severely diabetic.  His low blood sugar caused him to have a seizure.  It is a miracle he is alive.
He has broken bones in his face, ribs, and also severe complications in his back.
This happened three weeks after he had major back surgery.  My husband has had 3 strokes,
17 operations and sees 12 different doctors.  We are on the Husky Gov't insurance plan.
If this prayer and blessing were to come true I would give my son, who is getting out of rehab
in Florida next week the car I have right now. My son had one kidney removed and is recovering nicely.
Our old car is not reliable, but it will help him get a job when he returns and get him on his feet to provide
for his baby daughter.  He is a wonderful person and has had a very hard life.  Our family had many many
sad setbacks and knowing he would be able to have transportation to work and provide for his baby,
would just be an amazing blessing!  We are all so lost with direction and advice.  I am still numb from
my past and current problems.

Thank you SO very much for considering "me" for the car.  I truly NEED a reliable car to get my husband
back and forth to the doctors.  I used to have a 98 Honda (the newest car I ever owned) until the transmission
blew last summer.  We have also taken in our homeless brother in law, due to the fact he was at a shelter and
I could not see this with my own eyes when I have a spare couch for him.  He was recently diagnosed with
thyroid cancer and also needs my help driving him back and forth to his  radiation treatments and tests.
My brother in law is disabled and has been unable to work for the past 4 years.

We are also on a few gallons of diesel fuel in our oil tank right now.  I just don't know where the money will
come from to get us by this one last time.  We shouldn't need heat too much any more, but we have no hot water
for showers, etc.  I just HATE to be a burden, really I do.  I love to give give give and help others and
I just can't wait until I can do that again.  That is truly who I am and it makes me so happy to help others.
If you have any means of helping us out with maybe 50 gallons of oil, I can not thank you enough!!!
The fuel is so expensive and we don't have the  money at all.  Again, I'm very sorry I have come to this
point in my life to having to ask for help.  It is very embarrassing for me.  I am still looking hard for a job.

PLEASE consider all of the above, as this will help several people out in many ways :-)

When New Milford’s Vicki Tapia looked for some help with yard work for a woman she was working for,

never could she have imagined that the kind gesture would be reciprocated two years later, culminating

in a total home makeover.

Mrs. Tapia, a home aide, said she knew the widow she was attending could not manage the accumulation

of leaves in her yard,

Joe Tapia, 12, helps paint the exterior of a home

on Victory Lane in New Milford last Saturday.

Published: Friday, January 06, 2012

Brookfield’s Peter Brady, who, for several years, has been marshaling about a thousand volunteers for a multi-community service day called Rake ’n’ Bake

each fall, is an obvious choice for The Housatonic Times’ Person of the Year for 2012.
